Customizing the Site Actions Menu
It is possible to add custom actions to the Site Actions menu by creating a SharePoint "feature."

A feature is defined in SharePoint by two XML files: 1) a feature.xml file and 2) a manifest file. The feature.xml file defines the existence of a given feature, which can be installed in SharePoint. The manifest file contains the specific details of the feature and the actual action or function provided by the feature. For more information see the Working with Features on MSDN.

In general, SharePoint is a very robust and easy-to-use collaboration tool for large and small enterprise alike. Installing SharePoint and making it available to a larger group is relatively easy and does not require deep technical skill. The Fast Track Solution

The second offering, Fast Track to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, is targeted to companies wishing to develop robust internally or externally facing portals that include content management, profiling, personalization and enterprise search features. Fast Track to Windows SharePoint Services v3.0 Includes:

  • Installation and configuration of Windows SharePoint Services SP 1

  • Develop SharePoint solution, including the high-level taxonomy and look & feel customizations (logo only), based on immediate business needs in a virtual machine

  • Provide a 1/2 day training course for your technical staff (up to 5 people)

  • An enterprise license to Viritual Training Center for SharePoint by SoftwareFX (for up to 100 employees)

  • Documented implementation in our Technical Brief format

  • Deploy the solution to a production or staging environment

Project Timeline

The Fast Track project typically lasts one week from the initial onsite visit through the completion of the solution. At the end of the engagement, your business will have an operational SharePoint solution that will assist in making your business more effective and efficient.

Fast Track Cost: $6,500 (US)

Fast Track to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Includes:

  • Installation and configuration of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) SP 1

  • Develop SharePoint solution, including the high-level taxonomy and basic look & feel customizations, based on immediate business needs

  • Provide a two day training course for your technical staff (up to 5 people)

  • An enterprise license to Viritual Training Center for SharePoint by SoftwareFX (for up to 100 employees)

  • Provide "wireframe" representations of portal pages, detailing how all of the elements fit together

  • Documented implementation in our Technical Brief format

Project Timeline

The Fast Track project typically lasts five weeks from the initial onsite visit through the completion of the solution. At the end of the engagement, your business will have an operational SharePoint solution that will assist in making your business more effective and efficient.
