SHAREPOINT BRANDING TIP

Custom Master Pages
One of the first things you might notice when you look at a Master Page is the number of content placeholders. It's very important that all of the content placeholders remain on the page because they are mapped to their individual content placeholder controls via the contentplaceholderid attribute. An error will be generated if any of the default content placeholders have been removed from the Master Page.

However, it is possible to choose not to render certain content on the page by "hiding" the content placeholder within the Master Page. New content placeholders can also be created as a way to better organize your content.

Branding Benefits
From brand recognition to enhancing user experience, there are many benefits to customizing SharePoint’s user interface (UI). The more familiar users are to the UI, the better the odds for adoption. And if you’re just introducing SharePoint to your organizing, you probably already know the benefits of making change as transparent as possible.

Consejo, Inc. is the first to offer a SharePoint Branding solution that’s custom, yet quick-to-market and inexpensive. Our SharePoint Branding Fast Track Solution helps you to quickly and logically match up our templates (master pages, page layouts, CSS) to your business goals. All templates have been pre-developed to provide you with many choices while maintaining flexibility for customizations.

SharePoint relies on the following when it comes to branding.

  • Master Pages
Master Pages are used to identify the shared elements of your site. Shared elements include navigation menus, headers, and footers. Benefits of using Master Pages include the consistency you’ll see across all pages within your site and/or site collection(s) and the reduced amount of time and effort that’s typically encountered in development cycles.

  • Page Layouts
Page Layouts are specific to MOSS 2007 and provide a powerful yet flexible way to manage what content can be created on a specific page and the layout of that page. This Web Content Management (WCM) product allows organizations to give the freedom to users to create their own content while maintaining content organization and consistent brand awareness.

  • Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
CSS controls the overall display of page elements including fonts, tables, background, and positioning. Styles are implemented through SharePoint themes and/or alternate CSS files.

Here’s how it works.

  • Choose your overall look-and-feel from our collection of 9 unique Master Pages. (Options include 9 “Home” Master Pages and 9 “Inside” Master Pages.)

  • Choose your favorite formatting for the Top Navigation, Quick Launch, and Web Parts. (You can also choose to not display the Top Nav or Quick Launch.)

  • Choose the color palette that best matches your company’s brand.

  • Choose from any of our Page Layouts to work in conjunction with your new Master Page(s).

And that’s it! From your selections, we’ll quickly create a custom look-and-feel for your SharePoint site to match your current brand for less than half of the typical time and costs. Quick to market. Easy on the budget.
